Sustainability from the South: The Urban Agenda in Africa

The Global South is undergoing rapid urbanisation, population growth, and increasing demand for housing and infrastructure. In this context, the built environment plays a crucial role in advancing both sustainability and fairness.
We are honoured to welcome Nasra Nanda to the World Resources Forum 2025 as a keynote speaker. In her presentation,“Sustainability from the South: The Urban Agenda in Africa”, Nasra will explore how African cities can reimagine urban development by placing justice, collaboration, and local innovation at the centre.
Her keynote will highlight the urgent need for context-specific solutions that reflect local realities, respect planetary boundaries, and ensure inclusive access to housing, mobility, and essential services. She will also underscore the value of partnerships that amplify African knowledge and leadership in shaping a sustainable urban future.
About the Keynote Speaker
Nasra is a Kenyan legislator, lawyer, and globally respected leader in sustainability, ESG, and urban climate policy. She currently serves as CEO of the Kenya Green Building Society and Chair of the Africa Regional Network of the World Green Building Council.
With a decade of experience across legal, policy, and climate sectors, she has led groundbreaking green building initiatives in Africa—including the first certified government building in Nairobi and the first subnational green public building portfolio in Mombasa.
