Harnessing Demand-Driven Approaches For A Fair And Sustainable Resources Use.
We are pleased to announce that Jorge Laguna-Celis, a leading international voice in sustainability governance and resource policy, will join the World Resources Forum 2025 as one of our keynote speakers, taking place 2–3 September 2025 in Geneva.
In his keynote, “Harnessing Demand-Driven Approaches for Fair and Sustainable Resource Use,” Jorge will explore how societies, in order to achieve fair and sustainable resource use, can reconfigure the systems that meet human needs, moving beyond individual actions to systemic change rooted in equity, circularity, and sufficiency.
His keynote will highlight the importance of transforming provisioning systems such as food and mobility, so they reduce overconsumption, elevate underconsumption, and reflect diverse social realities. He will emphasize how inclusive policy design and a focus on well-being can help align resource use with both planetary boundaries and social justice.
About the Keynote Speaker
Jorge Laguna-Celis is the Director of the One Planet Network at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), where he leads global efforts to advance sustainable consumption and production. He brings more than two decades of experience in international environmental governance, multilateral diplomacy, and sustainability leadership.
Before joining UNEP, he held various roles in the Mexican Foreign Service, including postings in Nairobi and New York. He was involved in international negotiations on sustainable development, including the Rio+20 conference and the early stages of the 2030 Agenda discussions at the United Nations.
His work focuses on advancing policies and partnerships that promote more sustainable patterns of resource use, with attention to social and environmental outcomes. Through his role at UNEP, he engages with public, private, and civil society actors to support the transition toward more equitable and efficient systems of consumption and production.
